In cases of proven necessity, which will be assessed by the office manager, an Italian citizen may use consular services on an expedited procedure, obtaining a special appointment compared to the first available slot on the waiting list.
For such requests, the applicant must pay, in addition to the service fee, the priority handling fee.
Urgency must be justified by:
- Serious family or health reasons, certified by competent public or private authorities;
- Unavoidable work needs, evidenced by a signed request from a managerial authority (including name, role, and phone number of the signatory) on company letterhead, along with flight reservation or other travel title;
- Requests for long-term visas for Australia, supported by a letter from immigration agents.
It should be noted that – except in exceptional cases – the benefits of the urgent procedure cannot be extended to the applicant’s family members.
If the applicant is not registered with AIRE, the consulate will need to obtain clearance/delegation from the relevant police headquarters in Italy for passport issuance. Without this, the passport cannot be issued, even in emergencies.
Payments for the consular services listed above can only be made in cash or via debit card (no contactless).
