To register a marriage certificate, you need to appear at the Consulate on any Tuesday or Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (no appointment is required) bringing the following documents:

Completed and signed request for transcription;

For each spouse, a copy of the passport or another form of identification (preferably Italian);

The original marriage certificate (issued in Western Australia by the WA Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages), duly apostilled by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and translated into Italian by a NAATI certified translator).
Please note that apostilles must not be translated, and generally, translations should not be apostilled. The original certificates cannot be returned but must be kept in the family file in the Consulate’s archive.

Documentation must be submitted or sent only in original form. The original certificates cannot be returned and must be kept in the family file in the Consulate’s archive. Copies of any kind cannot be accepted.
CERTIFICATES FROM COUNTRIES OTHER THAN AUSTRALIA
For certificates issued by countries other than Australia, it is recommended to obtain the necessary information to complete the process (either through apostille or legalization, depending on whether the issuing country has ratified the 1961 Hague Convention) by visiting the website of the Italian diplomatic or consular authority responsible for that territory.
If the certificates are accompanied by sworn translations (as is often the case with documents issued in Brazil), they must not only be apostilled but must also clearly and legibly state that the “translation conforms to the original”, certified by the same professional who performed the translation. Otherwise, both documents will be rejected and returned to the applicant for proper completion.
