Civil union

Pursuant to 2016 legislation, a same-sex civil union may equally be established out of Italy.

Italian citizens resident in Western Australia intending to establish a same-sex civil union either at the Consulate or in Italy may lodge an application  via email to perth.statocivile@esteri.it and attaching the following documentation:

  1. plain copy of their ID’s as well as those of the two witnesses and the interpreter (if any);
  2. Federal Police check, issued by the Australian Federal Police;
  3. Result of Marriage Search or Single Status Certificate, issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, or by similar entity in their country of residence;
  4. For foreign citizens: Certificate of no impediment to marriage, issued by DFAT, indicating the details of both parties;
  5. application form for the establishment of the civil union at the Consulate; OR
  6. application form for the establishment of the civil union in Italy.
