Italian citizenship brings rights and duties towards the Italian Republic.
If you believe you may be eligible for Italian citizenship, please remember that, whilst knowledge of Italian language is not a prerequisite for all types of claims, full respect for Italy, its people and its constitutional values of democracy, tolerance and freedom are paramount.
Italian citizenship can be acquired either by descent (at birth) or by grant.

The Consulate of Italy in Perth has published a new useful guide to help to determine the potential eligibility of applicants to Italian citizenship “jure sanguinis”, that is, by descent. However, please note that the outcome of this guide is in NOT a guarantee of recognition of the Italian citizenship. Applicants need to book an appointment through the booking system Prenot@mi (https://prenotami.esteri.it) and submit a completed application with all the necessary adocumentation at the counter on the day of the appointment .
