The Italian Consul in Perth, Sergio Federico Nicolaci, joined Premier Roger Cook and Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti at the Perth Soccer Club to announce that AC Milan and AS Roma, two of Italy’s most iconic football teams, will play in a friendly Serie A match scheduled for May 31 at Perth’s state-of-the-art Optus Stadium. The match will coincide with WA Day celebrations (3 June) and the Italian National Day (2 June), with community events to be held across the long weekend throughout Perth.

Reflecting on the significance of this event, the Italian Consul stated, “This match is not merely a display of Italy’s footballing excellence; it’s a testament to the global community’s love for Italian football and a celebration of the deep cultural ties that bind Italy and Australia together.” The Consul also expressed gratitude towards the Western Australian Government for its vision and commitment to using sport as a vehicle for community unity and economic growth. The Consulate and the Italian Diplomatic Mission are working closely with local organizers to ensure the event’s success on and off the field. “This match is a rare opportunity for us to come together and enjoy the spirit of competition in a shared celebration of our enduring friendship,” he added, inviting football fans and cultural enthusiasts from across Australia and neighboring countries to “join us in this celebration of sport, excellence and culture”.
