On Saturday 5 December, the Italian Contemporary Art Day is back!
It is a great event promoted by AMACI, the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, which for sixteen years has involved museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, studios and artist spaces for tell the vitality of contemporary art in our country.
A sixteenth edition already new starting from the date, which will be in December and not in October as usual, to continue with the format, which will be hybrid with online and offline proposals, up to the guide image, which this year has been chosen not to entrust to a single artist but that it will instead be a digital mosaic composed of the works of 19 Italian artists, proposed by as many AMACI museums. It is a way to tell the network of associated museums and reflect on the sense of community, a concept that has always been at the center of the event. Also for this edition there will be the involvment of the foreign network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – which includes Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes – which will give life from Saturday 5 to Friday 11 December 2020 to a week of promotion of contemporary Italian art abroad.
In this complex year, deeply affected by the pandemic emergency, the Contemporary Art Day necessarily takes on a different form from the traditional one. The changed context due to the Covid-19 emergency required a suspension of the traditional format of the event and an updated edition with variations that guarantee its development on a double track, online and offline, encouraging all participants to contribute on both plans, if health conditions allow it, or on a purely digital level by joining the great communication campaign with the hashtag #giornatadelcontemporaneo.
The choice of a guide image composed of the previews of the 19 works proposed by Paola Angelini (Ca’ Pesaro), Meris Angioletti (GAMeC), Barbara and Ale (PAC), Cristian Chironi (Museion), New Forno del Pane Artistic Community (MAMbo), Andrea Facco (GAM Verona), Giovanni Gaggia (Musma), Barbara Gamper (Kunst Merano), Silvia Giambrone (Museo del Novecento), Andrea Mastrovito (Palazzo Faroni), Marzia Migliora (MA*GA), Nunzio (ICG), Nicola Pecoraro (MACRO), Luca Pozzi (FMAV), Alessandro Sambini (Mart), Marinella Senatore (Centro Pecci), Francesco Simeti (MAN), Justin Randolph Thompson (Mother), Emilio Vavarella (MAXXI) wants to be a direct reference to a plurality, to that sense of community that has characterized the work of so many museums in the difficult context of the lockdown and the difficulties brought about by the new rules of social life.
The Contemporary Art Day proves, even in an emergency context such as the one we are experiencing, one of the most awaited events by the increasingly vast and curious public, which has shown interest – both online and offline – to learn about museums, foundations, academies and galleries, public and private art places, actively taking part in debates and workshops, in contact with the artists and art of the present.
For the 2020 edition it will not be necessary to register for the event on the amaci.org website. A social pack will be provided – by writing to AMACI – to all members (with visual and pdf explanations) to promote the initiatives, communicate participation and join the Giornata del Contemporaneo using the institutional graphics.
