2016 Australian census

We are delighted to highlight some key facts reported in the 2016 Australian census about the Italians and the Italian community in Western Australia.

In the 2016 Australian census 122,943 West Australian residents claimed Italian ancestry, 11,049 more than what was reported in the 2011 Australian Census. Italian is confirmed as the first non Anglo-Saxon ancestry group in WA, with 5% of the overall WA population now claiming Italian ancestry, more than the national average of 4.3%.

With reference to Italian language, 29,401 West Australian residents declared speaking Italian in the home. Italian is confirmed as the second most spoken foreign language at home, after Mandarin.
