Born and raised in Piedmont, after his high school graduation in classical studies, Sergio Federico Nicolaci attained a BA and a MA in Philosophy at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (Milan).
During his university studies, he spent various terms at Albert-Ludwig University (Freiburg, Germany). He concluded his studies at The London School of Economics, where he obtained a Master of Science in European studies.
After working as an academic assistant for a number of years, he decided to pursue a career in the Italian Diplomatic Service, gaining a Master in Diplomacy at the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).
He entered the diplomatic career in 2018, serving two years at the Directorate General for European Affairs. He was assigned to the Embassy of Italy in Caracas (Venezuela), where he served as Head of the Ambassador’s Secretariat. From November 2021 to November 2023, he served as Head of the Consular Section at the Embassy of Italy in Kyiv.
During his service in Ukraine between 2021 and 2023, he witnessed the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and in particular supervised the evacuation of the diplomatic headquarters from Kyiv and its subsequent relocation to Lviv, before returning to Kyiv on Easter Sunday 2022.
Appointed Consul of Italy in Perth, with jurisdiction on Western Australia, Christmas Islands, Cocos (Keeling) Island, he took up his position on 20 November 2023.
The Consul, Sergio Federico Nicolaci, is assisted by the Vice Consul, Emilio Sessa, and a staff of seven.
