{"id":586,"date":"2023-04-14T12:21:32","date_gmt":"2023-04-14T10:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consperth.esteri.it\/?page_id=586"},"modified":"2025-05-27T14:54:23","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T06:54:23","slug":"marriage","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consperth.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/stato-civile\/marriage\/","title":{"rendered":"Marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To register a marriage certificate, you must attend the Consulate on a Tuesday or Thursday between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm (no appointment needed), bringing the following documents:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A completed and signed request for transcription <a href=\"https:\/\/consperth.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/richiesta_trascrizione_atto_di_stato_civile_rev-23.doc\">form<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>For each spouse, <strong>a copy of their passport or another form of ID<\/strong> (preferably Italian);<\/li>\n<li>The original <strong>marriage certificate<\/strong> (issued in Western Australia by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdm.dotag.wa.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WA Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages<\/a>), duly apostilled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dfat.gov.au\/about-us\/our-services\/apostilles-authentications-certificates-of-no-impediment-to-marriage\/Pages\/apostilles-authentications-and-certificates-of-no-impediment-to-marriage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Department of Foreign Affairs<\/a> and translated into Italian (it is recommended to use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naati.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NAATI<\/a>-certified translator).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Please note that apostilles need <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> to be translated, and in general, translations need <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> to be apostilled.<\/p>\n<p>The original certificates <strong><em>cannot<\/em><\/strong> be returned as they must be kept in the family file in the Consulate\u2019s archives.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, applicants may send all the above-mentioned documentation by post (either standard or registered) to: <strong>P.O. Box 1894, West Perth WA 6872<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Documentation can only be submitted or presented in <strong>original form<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The original certificates <strong>cannot<\/strong> be returned as they must be kept in the family file in the Consulate\u2019s archives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copies of any kind cannot be accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CERTIFICATES FROM COUNTRIES OTHER THAN AUSTRALIA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For certificates issued by countries other than Australia, it is recommended to obtain information on how to properly legalise them (via apostille or legalisation, depending on whether the issuing country is a signatory to the 1961 Hague Convention) by visiting the website of the relevant Italian diplomatic or consular authority.<\/p>\n<p>If certificates are accompanied by sworn translations (for example, documents issued in Brazil), they must not only be apostilled but must also clearly and legibly include the statement &#8220;true translation of the original,&#8221; provided by the same professional who carried out the translation.
