To register the birth of minor children born in Australia, this Office must receive:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The registration form<\/a>;<\/li>\n
  2. The original birth certificate, issued by the \u201cRegistry of Births, Deaths and Marriages\u201c certified by an apostille (issued by the \u201cDepartment of Foreign Affairs and Trade<\/a>\u201d);<\/li>\n
  3. The translation into Italian of the birth certificate by an official NAATI<\/a> translator or done independently. If opting for an independent translation, please note that it must be fully accurate and conform to the original text. Should this Office find discrepancies compared to the English text or missing elements, all documentation will be returned to the applicant to be amended. Please note that the translation of the apostille is NOT required. The translation is NOT required to be certified by apostille.<\/li>\n
  4. A photocopy of the Italian parent\u2019s Italian identity card or Italian passport and a photocopy of the foreign parent\u2019s passport (if the parents are not both Italian).<\/li>\n
  5. Evidence of one of the requirements established by the law converting Decree-Law No. 36\/2025<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    a) An Italian citizen parent (including adoptive) possesses exclusively Italian citizenship at the time of the child\u2019s birth (e.g., full birth certificate to be requested from the Italian Municipality, certificate of non-naturalization from the relevant foreign authorities, copy of visa, foreign citizenship renunciation statement issued by the relevant foreign authorities);<\/p>\n

    b) an Italian citizen parent (including an adoptive parent) has been resident in Italy for at least two consecutive years, following the acquisition of Italian citizenship and prior to the child\u2019s birth or adoption. This requirement must be demonstrated by means of a historical certificate of residence issued by the competent Italian Municipality<\/strong>, submitted either in original form or in electronic format. In the latter case, the certificate must be submitted together with the PEC email (certified electronic email) received from the Italian Municipality<\/strong>, in order to verify its authenticity.<\/p>\n

    c) A grandparent possesses \u2013 or must have possessed at the time of death \u2013 exclusively Italian citizenship at the time of the minor child\u2019s birth (e.g., full birth certificate to be requested from the Italian Municipality, certificate of non-naturalization from the relevant foreign authorities, copy of visa, foreign citizenship renunciation statement issued by the relevant foreign authorities);<\/p>\n

    d) The minor does not have and cannot acquire any other citizenship.<\/p>\n
