Forrestfield-Airport Link. Start of tunneling

On Sunday the 30th of July the Italian company Salini Impregilo launched one of the machines that will drill tunnels for the Perth’s newest rail line, connecting the eastern suburbs of Perth with the existing rail line and the airport (Forrestfield Airport Link). The rail line will be 8.5 kilometres long and will be made up of 8 kilometres of underground tunnels.

Premier Mark McGowan launched the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) with Grace, a local schoolgirl undergoing treatment for leukaemia. Grace’s peers nominated the TBM be named after her because she is the “toughest person they know”. Hon Rita Saffioti State Minister for Transport; Planning; Lands, Mr Steve Irons MP and Consul Balloni all took part in the event.
